What’s Happened So Far

This project started back in 1992 with an application to Shasta County by local developer Lawrence Adams, for a permit for water extraction (removal) of 26,000 gallons of water a day from Crook Springs for transfer by truck (no more than 5 trucks a day) for sale to bottling plants. (Click here for maps of the site)

The application was amended in July 2008 to increase the water extraction (removal) to 288,000 gallons a day, with an increase in the number of trucks to 48 a day from Monday-Friday 7am to 7pm and also on Saturdays during the peak season of May 15 – October 31. Concerns about the water extraction (removal) depleting the supply, along with traffic noise and air pollution, prompted Local Water Stays Local to seek advice and support. The group hired experts in hydrology and air pollution.

Given the conflicting reports submitted by experts on behalf of the developer and those from Local Water Stays Local, Shasta County is now requiring the developer to pay for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). (Click here for details – Response to Reply by Applicant Page 1 & Page 2).

Local Water Stays Local has retained an attorney who specializes in California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) legal issues.

The project is now pending submittal of an amended application by the developer.
